David Bunce made off with groceries worth £49 from Kilwinning’s Co-op on Main Street last July 3.
The 37-year-old then took various household products, valued at £22.50, from the Morrisons Daily shop in Ardrossan’s Central Avenue five days later.
Bunce also stole an electrical item from the town’s Asda supermarket on September 15, before returning to the same store on September 19 and 20 to nick a garden furniture set and further electrical items. The stolen goods were valued at around £450 in total.
The shoplifter admitted stealing food from the Keystore in Ardrossan’s Ashgrove Road on August 4 last year, and stealing food and household items three days later from the same shop.
Bunce, of Smith Drive, also pleaded guilty to assaulting a man when he appeared from custody at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on January 6.
He struck the victim on the head with a can, before headbutting him on a footpath on Glasgow Street in Ardrossan on September 10, 2024.
The offender admitted a separate charge of forcing open a vehicle and stealing a pump in Hull Place in Ardrossan between December 22 and 23, 2023, by smashing the window of the vehicle.
The court heard how the vehicle owner returned to find the front window had been smashed, with the glovebox open and CDs scattered on the seat.
Finally, Bunce also admitted assaulting a staff member at Scotbet in Ardrossan on July 27 last year by throwing a cup of coffee over him, causing the cup to strike him on the body.
The court heard how the staff member saw Bunce rolling a cannabis joint within the building, and he was asked to leave.
Bunce stated “come and make me” before throwing a cup of coffee over him. He was later traced by police, cautioned and charged.
Defence solicitor Simon Brown told the court that Bunce had a “longstanding difficulty” with drug addiction and that he wanted matters to be dealt with via a prison sentence.
Sheriff Laura Mundell sentenced Bunce to 12 months in prison, backdated to December 12 last year.
