On Saturday, January 11, Salisbury Symphony Orchestra played to around 250 people in the sacred St Thomas’s Church in both its first concert of 2025 and the first concert with its new leader Rachel Luton.

The orchestra of 56 performed: Johann Strauss – Emperor Waltz Op 437; Johann Strauss Snr – Radetsky March Op 228; Edvard Grieg – Peer Gynt Suite no.1, Op.46 and Antonin Dvorak – Symphony no.9 ‘From the New World’.

Chairman Sarah Salmon said: “It was our first time in our new venue in St Thomas’s Church and it was absolutely amazing – it was such a lovely venue and the acoustics were fantastic.

“We were struggling for years since Covid – we always used to go in the City Hall because we’re a symphony orchestra and we need a lot of space. Someone suggested St Thomas’s and we thought we’d give it a go.
“It went really well – it was great!”
The orchestra was so pleased with the venue that it is already booked in for another concert on May 3.
