Salisbury Railway Station’s subway underwent a £105k renovation, during which a secret tunnel underneath the station was uncovered. .

Various stakeholders in the city centre gathered to mark the first phase of the River Park project “nearing completion”. The Environment Agency, Wiltshire Council, Salisbury City Council, partners, and local representatives met on Friday morning for a tour of the first phase, which runs from Ashley Road to the Coach Park.

News Cafe on New Canal celebrated its opening weekend by handing out 500 burgers to its first 500 customers free of charge.  

A Wiltshire councillor told the Journal that the number of barbers in Amesbury is “taking away from the soul of the town”. There are about eight barbershops in the town, concentrated on Salisbury Street.

Red Power Market Ltd, in Minster Street, pleaded guilty at Salisbury Magistrates Court to selling a disposable vape to a 15-year-old Wiltshire Council trading standards volunteer.

The seller failed to request proof of age, despite the legal age limit for the sale of e-cigarettes being 18 and over

Salisbury Hospital confirmed that it would be sharing its chief executive with two other hospital trusts but denied that plans for a merger are on the cards. Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, Great Western NHS Foundation Trust (Swindon) and Royal United Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Bath) will be led by a joint CEO – later confirmed as Cara Charles Barks.

Countless stalls filled the Market Square, with queues of people trying the different offerings, all while hearing live music from the stage. 

 More than 400 people attended a special Parkrun event in October as the event celebrated its 20th anniversary. The Salisbury run is in Churchill Gardens, and is organised entirely by volunteers.  

The inquiry into the death of Dawn Sturgess began in Salisbury Guildhall on October 14. It was a packed first week,with the inquiry hearing evidence from Sergei Skripal, who was poisoned by Novichok on March 4, 208.  

Salisbury Parkrun celebrated a big anniversary A Paddington Bear statue was installed on Fisherton Streetto mark the release of the third film in the much-loved franchise.

After almost 15 months, Fisherton Street finally reopened for two-way traffic. The improvements to the road network and public spaces are part of the £3.2m Fisherton Gateway scheme.

Campaigners who are fighting to turn “neglected” farmland into a thriving nature reserve were given a £50,000 cash boost by Salisbury city council. Broken Bridges Nature Reserve Limited (BBNR)is raising £250,000 to purchase land at Fitzgerald Farm, known locally as Broken Bridges, to restore it for community use, enhance its biodiversity and improve public access.  

Salisbury Cathedral’s ‘emotional’ light and sound experience Sarum Lights returned. This year’s theme was ‘time’, allowing visitors to experience immersion under bright colours and patterns in the architecture of the Cathedral.

The Hitchings family have run Gurston Farm in Broad Chalke since 1887, andmembers of the family attended a protest against the rules in London. 

 Tiktok“influencer”Fiona Ryan was given a suspended prison sentence for ‘grossly offensive’ social media posts. Ryan, of Laverstock Road, was found guilty of six charges relating to grossly offensive social media posts in both September and November of 2024 and was sentenced with two suspended prison sentences.  

Tributes were paid to ‘local legend’ and football club chairman Stuart Withers, who died after a crash on Exeter Street. Mr Withers was the chairman of Shrewton United, vice-chairman of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League and a cricketer for his village club.

The Novichok poisonings which left one dead, several severely ill and more than 80 people in A&E were a result of an“abject failure”by the UK Government to protect the public, the Dawn Sturgess inquiry heard.

Marshall Murray, 83, damaged his Hyundai i30 on the raised kerb at the corner of South Western Road and Fisherton Street, beneath the railway bridge.  

The 2024 Berwick St John Country Fayre raised a record-breaking amount for the Stars Appeal. The total of £96,983.99 was announced during a special presentation held on Sunday, December 1 at a packed West Barn Lodge in Fovant with nearly 300 people in attendance.  

The headmaster of Bishop Wordsworth’s School resigned from his post due to ‘personal reasons’ after just three months in the role. Matthew Morgan, took over from Dr Smallwood in September 2024.

A man from Salisbury has become the first person to complete the Paddington Bear trail by visiting all 23 statues of Michael Bond’s iconic character. Rob Mankin, 66, who lives just off Wilton Road, toured the country in a Ford Transit van to have his photograph taken with the friendly bear in October and November
