The RAF Spadeadam Blue Streak Trail Run will take place on Saturday, May 10, allowing participants to explore the historic grounds of RAF Spadeadam, north of Gilsland.
The base, built in 1955, was originally a test centre for the Blue Streak rocket, an intermediate-range ballistic missile.
To this day, the site is regularly used for military training purposes.
The race will give participants a chance to see launch platforms, military equipment, and practice targets up close as well as views of the Lake District, Hadrian’s Wall, and Spadeadam Forest.
The run is unique as it allows access to military historical sites that are not usually accessible to the public.
The trail offers two courses, a 14-mile route with an entry fee of £30 and a 11km route for £25.
All profits from the event will be donated to the RAF Benevolent Fund, which provides financial and emotional support to members of the RAF community.
As a result of the fund, festive hampers were given out to veterans in Carlisle, Longtown, and Hexham this year.
Participants are advised to book their places soon, as numbers are limited.
