Rowswood Timber has posted an update on its winter coat appeal, stating ‘the donations keep coming, so we will keep collecting’.
Based on Hatton Lane, the company initially posted an appeal on its Facebook page asking for unwanted winter coats to be donated to its site which could then be distributed out to individuals who needed them, as temperatures in town dropped to below freezing in the last few weeks.
In return, its staff would reward donators with a nice hot coffee.
The name of the appeal was simply ‘Coats for Coffee’. However, the firm did not quite anticipate the generosity of the people of Warrington.
And within a matter of days, the employees of Rowswood Timber had received more than 20 donations and were out in Warrington distributing them personally to members of the public.
Following the success of the appeal and having spoken to those that they helped, the company took to social media again days later and widened its appeal to extend out to donations of food, clothing and other items.
In a more recent update on the appeal, posted on social media yesterday, Wednesday, a spokesperson for the local suppliers said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support and kindness that has been shown by an amazing amount of people.

“When we posted about this on Facebook, we did not expect the coverage and snowball effect that it would have.
“Thanks to the response from the public we have been able to help a very large number of people directly in and around Warrington, thanks to the donations received to us at Rowswood Timber kind people who probably had never heard of us have turned up loaded with bags of clothes.”
Addressing the future of the campaign, they added: “So what’s next, well the donations keep coming, so we will keep collecting.
“However, we needed help to able to deal it the generosity, so we have been in touch with a number of charities locally who specialise in this, charities and organisations that can continue to get the clothes to the people who need it directly.”
The company went on to thank all those that made a donation or shared the initial appeal, noting how ‘amazing’ it has been to see what has been achieved from it.
