A number of homes in Trinidad Close were filled with water on Friday, December 27 after a water main located on nearby Chineham Lane burst.
Residents were evacuated from their homes due to the flooding, with a temporary refuge point opened at Popley Fields Community Centre by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s emergency planning team.

The flooding was successfully contained by firefighters after approximately four hours, however, many homes were left with severe damage with flooring, furniture and more ruined by the rush of water.
One resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said her floorboards, which were installed just a month before, had to be removed due to water damage.
They added: “It took us four hours to clean up the front of the house and my husband had to take time off work to do it.
“We’ve tried to save things, but there was thick mud in the lounge which ruined our furniture so we need new sofas.”
A spokesperson for Vivid told the Gazette that they are continuing to support customers whose homes were affected.
They added: “Due to the water damage, five customers were moved into temporary accommodation, and we are working closely with them to ensure all are back in their homes and kept updated.
“Our customers’ safety is our priority.”
Roadworks remained on Chineham Lane two weeks after the burst water main, with work finishing on Thursday, January 9, causing further disruption to residents.

South East Water Distribution Manager, Gavin Jobling, confirmed that the roadworks were to repair ‘extensive damage to the road’.
He added: “We are so sorry to residents in the Basingstoke area whose homes were flooded on Friday, 27 December after a water main burst on Popley Way.
“We are continuing to support the homeowners and our partners to make sure their properties are safe and any damage is repaired.
“The repairs to the burst main were completed later that afternoon with the main refilled with water and turned on throughout the night and into Saturday (28) Morning.
“However, the burst caused extensive damage to the road, which we aim to repair as soon as we can.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents for their patience, and we are sorry to all those affected.”
