The European otter was spotted this morning (January 12) on the River Severn in Diglis.
Multiple residents saw the animal which was perched on a log for around five minutes before re-entering the water.
Julia Everest, who was able to snap a few pictures of the wild animal, said: “I spotted the animal on my walk to Diglis this morning.
“I saw something from quite far away on the other side of the river and I went to investigate.
“It turned out to be an otter which I thought was really strange and I thought I was seeing things.
“Another walker stopped to take a look as well but after five minutes it had had enough and dived off.
“It was really lovely to see and it’s nice to know they are around.”
In the 1950’s the animal was on the brink of extinction but conservation efforts around the UK have brought their numbers up to around 11,000 in the wild.
The European otter is a protected species and can be found in most counties in the UK including in Worcestershire although sightings are rare.
The otters are difficult to spot as they only pop their heads out of the water when swimming and are nocturnal animals meaning they are most active at night.
