Rail chaos after power cut between Ashford and St Pancras and fire between Margate and Ramsgate

A power cut to a line and a fire near tracks has caused travel chaos for commuters.

No super fast services are running between Ashford and St Pancras due to a failure of the electricity supply.

A “very limited” hourly shuttle service is now being operated between the two stations.

In Margate, a fire next to the track also stopped trains.

The incident has caused another power outage, closing the track between the station and Ramsgate.

A spokesperson for Southeastern said: “The electricity supply which powers the overhead lines at Ashford International has failed.

“High-speed trains cannot run from Ashford International to Ebbsfleet International. Engineers on site are working to resolve the issue.

“Services between London St Pancras International and Ramsgate via Dover Priory will run between Ashford International and Ramsgate via Dover Priory only.

“Services between London St Pancras International and Margate via Canterbury West will be cancelled.”

Affected passengers can use their tickets on the Tube and DLR at no extra cost.

In a post on X, they added: “A fire next to the track at Margate has caused a failure of the electricity supply to the line towards Faversham, meaning no trains can run towards Faversham.”

Just after 6pm, Southeastern said the lines had re-opened and were returning to normal.

Disruption on the Ashford/St Pancras line is expected for the rest of the day.
