Police warning as treacherous weather expected this weekend

As amber weather warnings have been issued across the county, drivers are being urged to be patient and heed advice from the Met Office.

Sgt Rob Simpson, of Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team, said: “It’s critical that we can continue to deliver policing in all weather and in all conditions.

“Please can we ask that you keep a watching brief on how the weather develops and adhere to road closures and officers on the ground if it’s significant.

“As a team we are on duty and will be doing all we can to keep you updated and keep our rural communities safe.”

Sgt Simpson added: “If you are out and about, keep travel to a minimum.

“Consider if you were to become stuck or stranded, how long it will take for help to get to you.

“4×4 capacity across all the emergency and voluntary services may not be as big as you assume.

“It can be an eight hour wait if you’re lucky and if you’re mechanically or medically trapped, that’s a long time to wait.”

Rural communities could be cut off due to conditions and officers may have to close roads.

Motorists are advised to take time to plan their routes, including possible diversions if necessary.

Sgt Simpson said: “We most likely won’t have time to advise on alternative routes if we’re closing a road, so please forgive us if we’re working quickly and need to crack on.

“It may seem rude but we often need the time to protect a scene or prevent people coming to harm.

“Please plan your route and include alternative routes too.”
