Police Scotland hunt for Three Towns masked intruder

One Saltcoats woman revealed she woke up yesterday (January 8) to find a knife left on a footstool and some of her belongings missing.

Meanwhile, an Ardrossan resident contacted police to report someone had been trying their door handle in the early hours of the morning.

Police Scotland today confirmed both cases were under investigation. Reports on social media reveal the same culprit may have tried dozens of other doors on the same night.

Door-cam footage of the culprit, who was allegedly prowling the streets trying to get into other homes, has been handed to cops.

The Saltcoats resident said: “This morning we woke up to a knife left on our footstool and missing belongings.

“We managed to speak to a few neighbours and got some doorbell footage of other houses the guys tried last night in similar areas of Saltcoats.”

She added: “It really is so scary. He’s obviously gone to a lot of houses. I’ve had loads of messages from people saying they saw him try their doors on their Ring doorbell.

“The one night I forgot to lock my front door. Hopefully they catch him soon.

“If anyone recognises him or has any information please message.”

The Ardrossan resident told us: “We all feel a lot better knowing others in the community will be informed to be on high alert and take precautions and to look out for each other, especially our vulnerable neighbours and those who can’t afford Ring cameras.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.34am on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, officers received a report of a person trying a door on Sorbie Road, Ardrossan.

“Around 7.40am on Wednesday, January 8, officers received a report of a break-in at a property on Middlepart Crescent, Saltcoats.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
