Police Scotland have issued Forres Community Council with the monthly crime report

Police Scotland have confirmed there were nine reported assaults in the area during the last month.

The Forres Community Policing team included details for the crimes in a report to Forres Community Council that also listed instances of other antisocial behaviour, theft and road misdemeanours.

The public counter is open from 8.15am-4pm Monday-Thursday and 8.15am-2.45pm on Fridays.

Police Inspector Neil Morrison confirmed a number of the issues were called in by the public.

One of the assaults was dealt with via a recorded police warning. Three others involved youths who have been referred to the youth justice management unit. Someone was arrested, charged and released to appear at court at a later date for another. A further assault was committed by a child below the age of criminal responsibility.

“Suitable measures have been put in place for this child,” said Insp Morrison.

Another two assaults are still being investigated.

There were three reports of vandalism in the area in December. One remains undetected but the others have positive lines of enquiry ongoing to identify the culprits.

Five incidents of threatening and abusive behaviour were reported. Four have been detected, two of which resulted in people being kept in police custody to appear in court on the following day. The other two were met with recorded police warnings. The remaining report has positive lines of enquiry being followed up.

There was a theft by housebreaking at a local businesses. This has positive line of enquiry and police are awaiting forensic analysis results.

Two people were found in possession of class B drugs. One was issued with a recorded warning and the other is linked with another case which is pending lab results.

Someone was traced and kept in police custody to attend court on the following day for failing to comply with conditions of bail.

There were three reports of shoplifting. Officers are using lines of enquiry including CCTV to identify the thieves.

There was a report of use of another’s card to withdraw cash from local ATM and further afield. The thief has been identified on CCTV and efforts are being made to trace them.

A bicycle being stolen was reported – positive lines of enquiry are ongoing.

There was a report of fraudulent activity on a credit card involving transactions taking place in America while the owner was in Scotland. The crime remains undetected but the complainer was reimbursed the spent funds.

Finally, there were a number of road safety issues and crime reported.

Four people were issued with £100 fines for driving with no valid MOTs.

A driver who failed to stop at a red light was issued with a £100 fine and three penalty points.

Five people are being reported to the procurator fiscal for driving under the influence of drugs.

One motorist was reported to the procurator fiscal for driving with no insurance. Another was issued with a £300 fine and six penalty points.

Someone got a £100 fine for driving with number plates that did not conform to legislation.

Another driver got a £100 fine and three points for stopping on a puffin crossing.

And a £100 fine and three points were issued to a motorist for careless driving.
