Police make arrest after ‘unexplained’ death of woman in Hamilton

Officers were called to a report of a “woman injured in a property” on Gilmour Drive in the town shortly after 8pm on Wednesday, January 15.

Emergency crews raced to the area, however, a 78-year-old woman was tragically pronounced dead.

(Image: Newsquest) Officers are currently treating the death as unexplained. A post-mortem will be carried out in due course.

The force has also said officers remain at the scene and anyone with concerns can approach them.

In pictures captured by The National’s sister paper The Glasgow Times, officers can be seen standing guard outside of the house.

The images also show the property has been cordoned off, while police vehicles can be seen parked on the street.

Meanwhile, they also revealed a 49-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault.

An investigation is under way.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 8.25pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, we were called to a report of a woman seriously injured within a house in Gilmour Drive, Hamilton.

“Emergency services attended and a 78-year-old woman was pronounced dead.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

“Officers remain at the scene and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers.

“A 49-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with assault.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
