Colin Johnson, 44, was enjoying a relaxing night with his family watching the boxing when they found the spider mixed in with their toppings after ordering from Pizza Hut in Southchurch Road.
Pizza Hut has confirmed it is investigating the incident and a spokesman insisted the firm takes food hygiene “extremely seriously”.
Colin contacted the takeaway and later the head office where he was offered a £20 voucher for the ordeal.
Mr Johnson said the sight of the creepy crawly baked into the pizza was a shock, and believes it had been mixed into their food with toppings during preparation.

We got four large pizzas, we sat down, it came five minutes before the fight, my wife pulled out the first slice and she jumped. She told me there’s a spider in my pizza.
“There was a spider between the slices where it had been cut, it was in the pizza. I showed the manager the pictures after I called him and he gasped in disbelief.
“They issued us a refund, and sent us a £20 voucher as an apology. I don’t think I’m ever going to want to order from them again.
“It was a definitely a surprise and a shock. I gave them a chance to apologise and make things good, but they came back with a pathetic response.
“The way the spider was, it was moulded into the pizza, it must have been cooked into it. It was melted into the cheese, it had to have been there before it went into the oven.
“No one could believe how big it is, we’ve kept the pizza. We’ve reported them to the Southend Council health and safety board, we haven’t heard back yet.”
The family were enjoying one of their regular pizza nights on December 21 as they watched the Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk boxing bout.
A Pizza Hut spokesperson said, “At Pizza Hut we take food hygiene extremely seriously and are carrying out a thorough review into this matter.
“We are liaising with the customer and we will continue to update them on the status of the investigation.”
