The restaurant chain has applied for a variation to the alcohol licence at the premises as it looks to relocate from Bridge Street, its home for around 30 years.

(Image: Charles Elliman) The application, which can be found on the signage at the restaurant, said the proposed variation is to extend the sale of alcohol (on and off sales) to start at 11am on Sundays, to extend the opening hours to open at 10am on Sundays and to remove the non-standard timings for Good Friday and Christmas Day.

The application said: “All other permitted hours, licensable activities and opening hours to remain as existing.”

The Chronicle revealed Pizza Express’ plans in early December when workers were seen putting up vinyl window stickers for the pizza chain at the former Debenhams unit.

The chain confirmed the move after it applied to Winchester City Council for permission to sell alcohol at Debenhams between 10am and midnight from Monday to Saturday, and between 12.30pm and 11.30pm on Sundays and public holidays.

The move comes after Five Guys and Nandos have moved into the other vacant Debenhams units.
