Around 150 people braved the still chilly Sunday morning air to support this event which has grown steadily over the years.

Originally set up in the early 1980s to help support George, a popular local sidecar motocross rider who suffered a life-changing spinal injury during a race. George is a regular attendee of the event, but was unable to attend this year as he was hospitalised the day before with an infection.

George’s son Bradley was there to represent his father and to start the races. He was supported by a good number of friends from the Motocross community.

This was evident today with every age taking part, from children to octogenarians.

Local running and cycling clubs were also there in force, including teams from the Romsey Running Club, and Mr R’s Runners. The latter was set up to remember Stuart Rogers who spent many years encouraging everyone to be active.

The event proudly raises money for the Inspire Foundation, which raises funds to aid life after spinal cord injury, and Wessex Heartbeat, a leading cardiac charity.

Today’s fastest times included Andy Gannaway on the short running course, and Toby Giles and young Felix Foster on the short cycle course.

Other winners were Colin Ings (long course cycle) and Rob Wilkinson (E-bike short course).
