They have paid tribute to their ‘one of a kind’ son Kye Cunnington whose ‘infectious likeability’ touched everyone he met.
Kye, from South Shields, who passed away on December 19, is remembered as a loving and ambitious boy who lived life on his own terms, according to his parents.
Despite enduring immense challenges, including a previous battle with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, “his positivity and determination inspired all who knew him”.
Parents pay tribute to teen who died days after cancer diagnosis:
His parents, Michelle and Kevin, shared how Kye’s character was shaped by kindness, resilience, and a deep love for his family.
They said: “He wasn’t like the usual 15-year-old boy. He didn’t follow the crowd and always did everything his way.
“Kye was ambitious and always knew what he wanted, and he worked so hard to achieve it. Shown through him defeating cancer the first time.”
Known for his favourite saying, “It is what it is,” his parents said that Kye faced every obstacle with courage and grace, even when seriously ill.
His family described him as “infectiously likeable” and someone who “meant so much to everyone he met.”
Though he didn’t have a large group of friends, Kye cherished those closest to him, never concerned with popularity.
He faced bullying in school but didn’t let it impact him. Instead, he pitied the bullies, showing empathy and maturity beyond his years.

Kye adored his family, especially his nieces and nephews, whom he was deeply protective of and immensely proud.
Kye leaves behind his parents, Michelle and Kevin, and his two older brothers, Nathan and Ethan.
Though his dream of visiting Canada went unfulfilled, Kye’s adventurous spirit and unique personality have left a lasting impression on those who loved him.

In memory of Kye’s laid-back nature and love of life, his family has requested that attendees at his funeral wear casual attire, incorporating something purple to reflect his favourite colour.
The family would appreciate that everyone clap when his coffin arrives to give him the send-off he deserves.
