Pangbourne Rotary’s Santa Dash raises over £8,000 for worthy causes

Pangbourne Rotary’s Santa Dash has raised more than £8,000 for worthy causes.

Despite the cost of living crisis, hundreds of West Berkshire residents helped reach this sum by joining Santa on his tour throughout the district before Christmas.

In total, he completed 12 street tours and was based at four static locations from December 2 until December 23.

And more than 500 people turned up for the grand finale at Tilehurst Triangle, which included carol singing from the Churches of Tilehurst, mince pies and mulled wine.

A Rotary spokesman said: “Over £8,000 and even more happy faces is a fantastic result.

“We would like to thank the public for their amazing generosity and all the volunteers who make this happen.

“Like many voluntary organisations, we struggle to have enough helpers to maintain our fundraising events, which enable us to donate over £35,000 to deserving causes.

“So, why not consider joining Pangbourne Rotary?”

Before starting his annual tour, Santa visited Readifood Food Bank, based in Reading.

He presented the staff and volunteers there with 260 individual Christmas cakes from Pangbourne Rotary to be included in recipients’ food packages for the festive season.
