Our Bury St Edmunds gift card sees increase in sales last month

Thousands of pounds could soon be spent at Bury St Edmunds’ businesses thanks to an increase in sales of the town’s gift card.

New figures reveal that £14,000 worth of Our Bury St Edmunds gift cards were bought in December alone – a 12 per cent increase compared to December 2023.

Spending on the card also rose during the same month, with more than £3,000 spent across businesses in Bury.

Mike Kirkham, Our Bury St Edmunds business support manager, said: “One of the huge benefits of this Gift Card is that it’s not just a fantastic way to support local independent businesses, but some of the favourite high street names too.

“For example, last month, some of the most popular places where the card was used include Vino Gusto, Waterstones, Adnams and Shuffle Board Game Café – a real eclectic mix.”

The Business Improvement District (BID), which manages the gift cards, has recently signed up new arrivals to the town, including Blend and Lisa Angel, both in Abbeygate Street.

The highest number of businesses are also accepting the gift card as a payment

That brings the total number of businesses accepting the card to more than 75 – the highest number of outlets since the card’s launch in 2020.

The BID is currently working with businesses that are considering accepting the gift card as a form of payment and hopes to see the number exceed 80 soon.
