Oakley DJ is just 13 but is already dreaming of Tomorrowland

At just 13 years old, Lyall Campbell is unlike any other kid, according to his mum Elizabeth, and has been taking the Dunfermline DJ scene by storm.

Elizabeth told the Press: “He started in lockdown. I don’t know what it was, we just got him a wee Newmark first DJ kit and he was doing music. I posted it online and people were like oh my god he’s so good.

“Then a couple of years went by so we got him a better one. I thought we couldn’t help or advise him so I’m going to get Jase Thirwall, who’s a known DJ in the area and he said, ‘He is amazing, he could go back to back with me on anything. I’ve never met anybody that’s so young and so good’.

“We knew he was good but we didn’t know really how good he is ’cause we don’t know anything about that.

“I’ve just never met a bairn like him.”

His mum is astounded at the commitment that Lyall has for the craft and is even more shocked at how getting behind the decks transforms her shy little boy into a confident artist.

She continued: “He is quite quiet but see when he gets up on that stage? When he’s up there, he’s like a different person.

“He just takes everything in his stride, he doesn’t get phased by anything. He had done a gig in Crossgates and he had an audience and he wasn’t even nervous!

“I was more nervous for him. He just got up there and did it! Everyone was waiting at the side of the stage, giving him fistbumps. He was like a wee megastar.”

While Elizabeth is nervous about letting Lyall play events and gigs, she doesn’t want to hold him back and lets him decide what he wants to do and when.

Lyall, who performs under the stage name ‘DJ Campy’ has set himself up social media pages and even a SoundCloud to help him grow his audience.

In the meantime, his mum is continuing to invest in Lyall’s dreams and has even updated his equipment for Christmas.

She added: “He wants to play Tomorrowland, that’s his dream, all the big festivals like Creamfields.

“Fingers crossed he does it but I’m just in awe of everything he does. He’s so dedicated.”
