Northcroft Leisure Centre unveils new gym as as part of wider £4.6million project

The newly refurbished gym at Northcroft Leisure Centre has been unveiled as part of a wider £4.6m project.

The upgrade, funded by West Berkshire Council, has given the gym a new look and feel, providing members with a modern, inviting space where they can achieve their fitness goals throughout January and beyond.

Extended across two floors, the gym now includes 80 stations complete with state-of-the-art Life Fitness equipment.

The ground floor features brand-new free weights, benches, dumbbells and squat racks, creating an all-new strength area to meet the ever-growing demand for weight training among all age groups.

Meanwhile, the second floor has been transformed into a cardiovascular and resistance area.

Nigel Foot (Lib Dem, Newbury Clay Hill), West Berkshire Council’s executive member for culture, leisure, sport and countryside, said: “This is an impressive improvement and is a fine example of the high standard of leisure facilities we want for the people of West Berkshire.

“We look forward to completing part two of our Northcroft upgrade.”

The unveiling of the new gym marks the conclusion of phase one and the start of part two of the £4.6m project, which will see the addition of modern studio spaces, a dedicated group cycling studio and two top-of-the-range male and female changing and shower areas next to the first floor of the gym for added convenience.

Planned improvements also include a larger soft play area for children, a café, a new reception area and an enhanced look and feel throughout the centre, which is run by award-winning operator Everyone Active.

Richard May, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “These improvements mark a significant step forward for the district’s leisure facilities and we hope the transformations will create even more opportunities for people of all ages, interests and abilities to start or continue their fitness and wellness journey with us.

“Our newly transformed gym and the completion of stage two will ensure the local community has outstanding facilities for many years to come.”
