The start of 2025 is looking a whole lot better for some investors who’ve scored big wins on their NS&I premium bonds.
Across the North East 519 bond holders won ‘high value’ prizes in January, all claiming at least £1,000.
National Savings and Investments (NS&I) Premium Bonds allow investors to buy bonds, with a minimum of £25 and maximum of £50,000, and have the chance of winning money in return, instead of earning interest like a normal savings account.
Many choose them as holders do not pay capital gains tax, stamp duty or income tax on any earnings, and they do not count towards your personal savings allowance.
Every month two winners take home the £1 million prize, with about 80 on average winning £100k, around 160 claiming a £50k prize, and more than 300 winning £25k.
More than 5.5 million prizes are handed out each month totalling more than £400m, with the vasty majority winning between £25 and £100.
