‘No plans’ to close unit at Dunfermline’s Queen Margaret Hospital

A source contacted the Press after hearing that the assessment and rehabilitation service at the Dunfermline facility was due to close in the coming months.

The Fife Health and Social Care Partnership has said this is not the case.

A spokesperson said: “There are no plans to close the assessment and rehabilitation service at Queen Margaret Hospital.

“The focus of the service is to optimise health, wellbeing and independence of frail people across Fife. We are keen to make our services as accessible as possible and we’ve done a lot of work to enhance the Fife wide model so we can move to delivering services in people’s own homes.

“This will ensure equity of access for everyone, especially those people that are frailer and might find it challenging to attend an appointment.

“This approach will not be appropriate for all patients and so the service will also continue to provide care and treatment from its existing base at Queen Margaret Hospital, with gym and clinic space still available for those people that need to be seen in this type of setting to use specific equipment.

“Providing a greater balance of care in the community will help us reduce the numbers of those having to travel to hospital, while at the same time helping enhance and modernise the service, making it more equitable for people across Fife requiring assessment or rehabilitation.”
