Today (Friday, 10 January) marked the grand opening of The Pantry at New Wortley Community Centre. The atmosphere was buzzing, with local residents taking advantage of affordable food through this new initiative.
The Pantry is open Mondays 4-6pm and Fridays 12-2pm and serves as an accessible food resource for those living in New Wortley and Armley, operated by dedicated staff who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare for this moment.
Sarah Malone, who runs The Pantry, said: “It’s really exciting to be able to offer this new opportunity to the residents of New Wortley, we’re really looking forward to welcoming some new faces into the centre and the pantry!”
The Pantry’s first customer – local resident Paul – said: “It’s great, 100% better than it’s ever been, I’ve seen these pantry’s on the telly and now I’m really glad that we have one in my area, I’ll be coming every week!”
