New Worcester walkway ‘tantalizingly close’ to opening

Worcester City Council plans to demolish the former Jaqk’s takeaway to make way for a new footpath to The Arches are nearly complete.

The project, which first came into fruition in 2020, will see a new footpath better connecting the various businesses under the railway arches to the rest of the city.

She said: “At Worcester City Council, we are looking forward to several ambitious projects with a visible impact.

“The route from Foregate Street station along the railway arches to the riverside is tantalisingly close to being open.”

A spokesperson for Worcester City Council said an official opening date is yet to be confirmed.

The new walkway will include improved lighting to help ensure the route between Foregate Street and the riverside is safe at night.

The opening will mark the completion of Worcester City Council’s The Arches’s final phase–a Worcester project funded by £4.5 million from the Government and Arts Council’s Cultural Development Fund.

The boarded-up former chicken shop, which greets people leaving Worcester Foregate Street, has been closed since closing in 2021.

The opening will also provide a direct link to the River Severn and The Hive.
