New vehicle repair centre, Precision Automotive, opens in Haverhill

Two friends with decades of combined experience as mechanics have taken the bold step of opening their own vehicle repair centre in Haverhill.

Alex Parsons and Kieran Cunnington, whose time in the industry dates back 16 and almost 12 years, respectively, opened Precision Automotive yesterday in Hollands Road.

The business will be a general repair workshop for vehicles, be they two-wheeled or four, and its launch is the realisation of a long-held ambition of Alex, 31.

Having started out as an apprentice at a Mazda dealer in Cambridge he went on to work for other dealers in Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury before, three-and-a-half years ago, taking a job as chief mechanic and workshop manager at the Haverhill Car Exchange in Sturmer Road.

It was in his most recent job that he gained the widest experience, due to the variety of car models that he had to work with.

Alex, who like Kieran is from Haverhill, said: “I’ve always had the dream to go it alone but just never had the right opportunity to go and do it and I have been here, there and everywhere and ended up at the Haverhill Car Exchange.”

After Kieran, 29, approached Alex about the possibility of the two of them setting up a business at the Hollands Road workshop that the former was already using, everything was put into place so that the repair centre could open on January 2.

Although Precision Automotive will not be doing MOTs on site (they will be sub-contracted out to nearby Little Dave’s Test Station), pretty much any vehicle repairs will be on offer.

Alex and Kieran will run the business day-to-day with the help and support of their respective partners.

Alex added: “It will be anything and everything really.

“I myself very much enjoy the diagnostics.

“I like fault finding but my business partner is very good with a welder.

“Obviously we will offer general repairs in between all of that but it will be pretty much everything and anything, from motorbikes to cars and vans, anything mechanical to be honest.

“We will turn our hands to anything.

“There’s not really anything that we don’t want to offer.

“The idea behind our garage is that we want it to run as if it is a main dealer.

“We want it to look professional and to feel professional.”
