New skills academy launched in Wiltshire for ex armed forces

The Wilton Gate Skills Academy is a collaboration between the Vistry Group and Building Heroes, a charity that aids military personnel transitioning to the construction industry.

The academy, based at the Wilton Gate development, will provide construction training and employment opportunities for service leavers.

The need for this initiative is highlighted by the UK Trade Skills Index 2024, which states that the construction sector requires 1.3 million new recruits and 350,000 apprentices over the next decade to meet targets for new homes and net zero.

Andy Bloxham, divisional chair of Vistry West, said: “We’re really pleased to be opening our third Skills Academy in partnership with Building Heroes in Netherhampton.

“Over the next three years, this transformative programme will equip a significant number of veterans with the skills needed to transition into a career in construction.

“This helps participants to prepare for a life outside of the armed forces, whilst also contributing to the industry’s wider demand for construction professionals.”
