A new phone mast that would help boost local connectivity could soon be installed in the Whitegate area of Wrexham.
EE UK Ltd and Hutchison UK Ltd have put forward plans for a 20m high telecommunications mast, fenced compound, equipment cabinets, overhead cable management, and associated ancillary works.
If approved, the mast would be installed on land to the rear of the Whitegate Industrial Estate.
The plans involve replacing an existing mast.
According to the applicants, the proposed new facility is “urgently required to maintain” and provide improved coverage for the area.
Further details about the plans are provided within the application’s supporting documents, which state: “The proposal is for the installation of a new 20.0m high monopole and associated antennas that will provide continued and improved coverage for EE, H3G LTE, and ESN for this area of Wrexham when the existing NTQ base station is removed.
“The proposed new facility will require the installation of a limited number of equipment cabinets housing radio equipment within the proposed compound in close proximity to the base of the pole.
“The proposed site is located to the east of the Whitegate Industrial Park. It is known for housing a variety of businesses including manufacturing, warehousing and benefits from its strategic location near major road networks, including the A483, which provides easy access to Chester, the M56, and the wider North West region. Its proximity to Wrexham town centre also makes it convenient for local businesses and workers.
“The immediate area is rural and residential in nature. Whilst the installation site has some housing to the north.
“The site has been carefully selected in a position that properties will not directly overlook the site. Trees that are already established in the area will provide some screening of the proposed site.
“As previously stated, this is not a new, additional installation but a replacement for an existing installation that will need to be removed.
“The proposed installation is necessary for the continued and improved wireless connectivity and capacity for local businesses, residents and visitors to the busy area of Wrexham.”
Several alternative sites were considered for the mast, including near Fibrax Ltd in Queensway, Whitegate Pitches, and Queensway SW.
These sites were discounted due to a lack of space, being near residential property, and encroaching onto local football pitches.
The application will be considered for approval by Wrexham Council at a later date.
