New Milton man arrested by Hampshire police on suspicion of dangerous driving

A NEW Milton man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after two police cars were rammed by a vehicle.

Country Watch officers had been carrying out late night patrols in rural areas in a bid to disrupt offences such as burglary and hare coursing when the incident took place on Friday 8th November.

The previous evening the specialist rural and wildlife crime team had been made aware of two vehicles which were driving dangerously and at speed following the theft of a mini digger stolen in Wiltshire.

After initial attempts to follow and stop them, the vehicles were lost before one was spotted later in the night in Calmore.

The following evening police spotted a vehicle suspected to be involved in the incident in Romsey, along with a Ford Transit van.

Both failed to stop for police and two police vehicles were rammed in the process. While a Honda CRV evaded capture, officers successfully stopped a Ford Transit van in Lee.

Hampshire police confirmed the van was seized and later found to have been stolen from Dorset.

A 39-year-old man from New Milton was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage, and theft of a motor vehicle.

He was bailed until 8th February while investigations continued.
