Why these brand-new Scottish hotels were named among the best to visit in Europe this year
The Hoxton in Edinburgh and the expanding Crossbasket Castle in East Kilbride were the two Scottish hotels named among the best new openings to stay at in Europe.
Discussing the Haymarket location, The Times said Ennismore, which runs four of London’s most affordable hotels has teased travellers with the opening of a Scottish location for years now.
After a number of delays, anticipation hasn’t been dampened for the chain’s new Edinburgh outpost.
The newspaper adds that the surrounding area is “perfect” and that the “trendy” Haymarket location is within easy reach of the city’s main sights.
The project, which is made up of 11 Georgian townhouses, is said to be “suitably glamorous” for any traveller and features a number of amenities, including a “wee” cinema.
The East Kilbride entry is said to be a 17th-century castle that is already “firmly embedded in the weekend plans of many Glaswegians” thanks to its proximity to the city.
Featuring a sumptuous nine bedrooms and 14 parkland acres, the hotel provides a “peaceful buffer” from urban life.
The spot has received much praise from visitors with users on Tripadvisor giving it a 4.5/5 out of 392 reviews.
One person wrote: “The grounds of the castle and the accommodations are stunningly beautiful. The cocktails are amazing and the food is delightful. Our room, the Downie, made us feel royal.”
