Waltham Forest Council has confirmed that a fresh developer has agreed to complete construction of the Patchworks scheme in Walthamstow.

The 583 home development at the former Homebase site was stopped back in October 2023 after developer Inland Homes fell into administration. It had been due to be completed by March 2025.

However, in a statement posted to its social media channels today (23rd December), the council said Countryside Homes had signed a contract to deliver the project and work on the site would restart in January.

The full statement reads: “Countryside Partnerships has entered into a contract to complete construction of the Patchworks scheme, which will provide 583 new homes.

“This follows significant work by the council throughout 2024 to get this privately owned site up and running again, and construction will now re-commence from January.”

The council added it would provide a further update in the new year.

The development was first given the green light by the council in March 2021, with the approved blocks ranging from four to 18 storeys tall. Two blocks had been erected when Inland Homes filed for administration.

Waltham Forest Council describes the development as “including affordable housing, new commercial and community space, and attractive, welcoming gardens and play areas.”

Alongside the housing, the development promises “environmental improvements along Forest Road” including “80 new trees”.

The DIY outlet Homebase which occupied the site was demolished in summer 2021.
