New defibrillator installed at Stephens Bakery in Halbeath

The device is now available at Stephens Drive-Thru in Halbeath, offering residents and visitors access to potentially lifesaving help.

The installation of the defibrillator was made possible by funding from The Stephens Foundation, Halbeath & Duloch Community Council (HDCC), and Fife Council’s Local Community Planning fund.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) notes that every minute without CPR and a defibrillator during a cardiac arrest reduces survival chances by up to 10 per cent.

The new device will now make residents more than five minutes closer to a defibrillator than before, and it will be available 24/7 while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

Michael Pattinson, HDCC treasurer said: “It’s great for the residents in Halbeath to have closer access to critical lifesaving equipment, and whilst we hope it never needs to be used we know that it will be appreciated by the villagers.

“A big thanks to Stephens Bakery for hosting and installing the defib at their shop and drive thru.”

Talia Sarafilovic, Stephens Bakery joint managing director said: “We’re delighted to help the residents of Halbeath access this potentially lifesaving defibrillator.

“Our core mission at The Stephens Foundation is to contribute positively to our communities, and we’re proud to have been able to support the community council here in Halbeath with this project to install a new defibrillator.”

In an emergency, the public is advised to contact 999 for assistance.

If the ambulance service identifies that a defibrillator is needed, they will provide the access code and closest location.
