New banking hub for Kilwinning is now officially open

The official opening of the facility in the former Clydesdale Bank at 144 Main Street was carried out last week by North Ayrshire Provost Anthea Dickson

The move came about after a public campaign was launched when the town’s last banking facility closed.

Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect nationwide access to cash, run the facility.

They revealed the new hub will continue to offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm.

There is also a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the hub.

In Kilwinning, the Community Bankers are available on the following days:

  • Monday: Santander
  • Tuesday: Royal Bank of Scotland
  • Wednesday: Bank of Scotland
  • Thursday: Barclays
  • Friday: Virgin Money (9.45am – 4.45pm)

Last year, while the site for the permanent hub was being refurbished, a hub was opened at a temporary location in Kilwinning Library, and this location is now closed.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “I’m happy to announce the opening of our Kilwinning hub, ensuring crucial access to cash and face-to-face banking services for residents and businesses across the community.

“Special thanks to Kilwinning Library for providing us space, while we were working on securing and upgrading our long term home.

“Customers can visit on any day of the week for their everyday banking transactions and if you have a specific or more complex enquiry for your bank, a Community Banker will be there to help on the day they’re in the hub.”
