Mystery as entrance to care home in Downton littered

On Thursday, January 2, the team at Ashley Grange Care Home, on Lode Hill in Downton, found the road and entrance to have been littered with what looks like toilet paper or fabric.

The rubbish appeared to have become caught on trees and remained there on the morning of Friday, January 3.

Speaking to the Journal, home manager Alison Wetherall said: “It’s not from our bins as they’re all locked.

“We don’t know where it’s come from. But the most important thing is to clean it up.”

Alison said that, while it was not their own mess, their maintenance worker would clean it up. It had not been reported to the council at this point.

Wiltshire Council cabinet member for street scene councillor Nick Holder said: “We were not previously aware of the litter at Lode Hill in Downton, however, we have now arranged for our teams to attend the site and remove it at the earliest opportunity.

“Reducing litter is a key priority for us and we would encourage people to report litter to by using our online mywilts reporting system or by visiting www.wiltshire.gov.uk/litter.”
