The MP for Finchley and Golders Green celebrated Small Business Saturday earlier this month with a visit to London’s first all female garage.
Sarah Sackman dropped in on Long Lane-based Spanners with Manners on Friday 5th December as part of her several visits to mark the event on Saturday 6th.
The business owner praised the MP for her willingness to grab some tools and have a go with the support of the garage team.
Spanners with Manners’ director Siobhan, said: ““My wife and I have been here on Long Lane for seven years. We have a team of fantastic women who work brilliantly with local customers.
“Our local community is so important to us, we collect for Finchley Foodbank and relish our business’ names working its way around WhatsApp.
“So meeting Sarah, our local MP, was very special – especially since she was keen to learn and get her hands dirty!”
After the visit, Sackman said “I was delighted to be able to meet the inspiring women behind Spanners with Manners and hear the story of their local business.
“It is so important in government that we protect businesses like this to boost our local economy and keep our high streets thriving. Local residents tell me that they would much prefer to spend their money on local business – but over recent years our high streets have become clusters of betting shops and fast food chains.
“This Labour government is committed to reversing the damage the last government had on our high streets and small businesses. From raising the threshold for national insurance contributions, to provision of £250 million to the British Business Bank’s small business loans programme, this government shows that it is on the side of small business.”
Independent news outlets like ours – reporting for the community without rich backers – are under threat of closure, turning British towns into news deserts.
The audiences they serve know less, understand less, and can do less.
