Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols submitted a written question to the Treasury regarding the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.
From August 3 to 31, 2020, this saw diners receive a 50 per cent discount when they ate in at restaurants that were registered with the Conservative Government scheme.
The aim was to support the hospitality industry to counter the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic through Government subsidies.
Labour MP Ms Nichols asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer ‘if she will assess the effectiveness of the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme’.
The question was answered by Tulip Siddiq, who holds the Government post of Economic Secretary at HM Treasury.
She said: “Following the conclusion of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, HMRC published statistical analysis.
“This included data on the scheme’s costs, take-up and geographical breakdown.
“The Covid Inquiry is also investigating the UK’s response to and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The Government is cooperating fully with the inquiry in its extensive and detailed work.”
