Motorbike crash survivor discovers bike has gone missing from scene at Queenborough after undergoing surgery

A supermarket supervisor who was left needing surgery after crashing his moped received an added “gut punch” after later learning his moped had gone missing from the scene.

Morgan De-Holland was on his way to work at the Co-op in Queenborough when he lost control of his bike and slipped on black ice.

The 30-year-old, who lives in Sheerness, says he did an 180-degree turn as he fell off and “hit the ground hard” at the roundabout which connects Whiteway Road and Cromwell Road with the main road.

He called an ambulance around 1.45pm on Saturday (January 4) and after around half an hour was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by paramedics.

Doctors told Morgan he would need surgery as he had shattered his right thigh bone in two places, meaning the femur was in three different parts.

They made three incisions into the leg and inserted rods down the length of the bone and into his hip.

The marks of the surgery have left scars, which were stapled up.

He will now have to wait six weeks before he can start walking again.

Morgan told KentOnline yesterday (January 7) that he does not know when he will leave the hospital and that he is still in “a lot of pain”, despite being given morphine and paracetamol.

But his ordeal was made even worse when he found out the red and black moped he was riding at the time of the accident has gone missing.

His dad had gone to pick it up from Cromwell Road, where it had been locked up by police officers who had attended the crash, after returning to Sheppey at around 8pm after visiting him in hospital.

But to his dad’s surprise the SYM MASK 125 bike, which Morgan bought in 2021 for £2,200, has disappeared.

Morgan told KentOnline: “The bike is my independence and my only way to get to and from work so it is a gut punch.

“I am still hoping that the police will tell me they have got it.

“I know someone has taken it because no one has been in contact to say they have it. If you have taken it give it back.”

Responsibility for the recovery of vehicles after accidents lies with the the owner(s).

Police are investigating the disappearance and anyone with information that may assist officers should call 01795 419119, quoting reference 8-0411.
