Moray gets first batch of snow in 2025 as NHS Grampian issues health advice

The first snow of 2025 took little time to arrive in Moray – coming on the first day of the year.

Late on January 1, a smattering of snow covered Moray towns. Overnight, more snow has fallen.

A yellow weather warning that is in place for Moray, Aberdeenshire and the Highlands is due to end on Friday morning.

That won’t be the end of the wintry conditions, however. More snowfall is expected in the area tonight, according to the Met Office.

The Met Office add that “snow and ice will likely lead to some travel disruption and difficult driving conditions”.

NHS Grampian issued a statement urging people to avoid “unnecessary” journeys.

A spokesperson said: “Prevention is always better than cure, so if you can, avoid unnecessary journeys in such conditions, especially if you have to travel on foot. Stay home, stay warm, and stay safe!

“If you have to leave your home, ensure you are dressed warmly, wear sensible shoes with a good grip, and take extra care when on slippery surfaces.”
