Met Office snow grains to hit the West Midlands region

The Met Office has said the region will remain largely dry overnight but there could be the occasional spot of ‘snow grains’.

Snow grains are a very small form of solid precipitation, which appears as white and opaque grains of ice.

The grains are fairly flat or elongated with a diameter generally less than 1mm.

Snow grains are the solid equivalent to drizzle.

The Met Office said: “The blanket of cloud will persist for most this evening and overnight.

“Remaining largely dry but occasional spots of drizzle or snow grains are possible later. Cold with a slight frost in places. Minimum temperature 0 °C.”

On Sunday (January 19), residents can expect another cold and grey day with the chance of drizzle and more snow grains over higher ground.

There is a maximum temperature of 4°C.

From Monday (January 20) to Wednesday (January 23), the weather will stay mainly dry and chilly.

There will be the occasional bright spells but often cloudy with rain or drizzle possible at times.

Frost and fog are expected in places overnight.
