Met Office say Fife to be hit with rain and snow over Hogmanay

Disruption is expected until the end of today (Hogmanay).

The Met Office warned: “Spray and flooding will lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

“Some communities may be cut off. Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

“Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

“Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible from rain or snow. Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life.”

There is also a yellow weather warning in place for wind – alerts for rain, snow and wind cover all of Scotland, with an amber warning in the north of the country.

The Press previously reported that Fife was set to be hit with “heavy and persistent snow” over New Year’s Day and January 2.

This has now been revised, with no weather warnings in place for those two days in Fife, although the Met Office has warnings in place in other parts of Scotland and England.

The forecaster also added a range of tips for keeping safe, including checking the car thoroughly before setting off, packing essentials and check for delays in advance.
