Met Office: North East weekend forecast after cold alert

Despite it being a widely frosty start to the day today, it will otherwise be a mainly dry day with plenty of sunshine seeing a maximum temperature of 9c.

However, that will soon change once night falls with frost and freezing fog expected due to clearer skies. Many can expect a minimum temperature of -1c.

Moving into Saturday, it will be cloudy at first but sunny spells will break through for many areas. Thanks to light winds there will be a maximum temperature of 7c.

The Met Office has warned of cold with clear and sunny spells for Sunday and Monday. Frost and freezing fog are expected as temperatures remain dropped.

Colder temperatures are expected to recover by Tuesday.
