The Met Office has published a yellow weather warning across the north west of England for snow and ice.
An existing warning is in place to midday today, Monday, but a fresh warning will come into force from 5pm, and run through to 10am tomorrow morning.
Forecasters say that icy stretches and sleet and snow showers will be developing overnight, bringing some disruption, especially to travel.
Some roads and railways are likely to be affected, with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
There will also be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, with a risk of injuries from slips and falls.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Icy stretches are expected to develop this evening, due to ongoing wet surfaces following earlier rain and, in places, snowmelt.
“Frequent sleet or snow showers are also expected to affect Wales and parts of north-west England this evening, moving into south-west England, the Midlands and parts of southern England in the early hours of Tuesday.
“In addition to the ice, these are likely to produce snow accumulations of a few cm above 200 metres, with a small chance of greater than 5cm above 200 metres in Wales.
“The heaviest snow showers may also produce temporary accumulations of up to 2cm at low levels.”
People who need to travel are urged to allow for extra time for journeys and checking for disruption beforehand.
