Drivers are being urged to check before they travel and leave extra time for their journeys.
The Met Office, along with the RAC and National Highways, have reminded drivers of how to travel safely in fog, including using fog lights and not full beam headlights, increasing the gap between the car in front of you from two seconds to four and, if visibility is extremely limited, wind down your windows at junction to listen out for approaching traffic.
Patches of fog are expected to lift slowly throughout the morning, leading to an afternoon of sunnier spells, the Met Office has said.
