The Mercure hotel in Ayr is one of 17 tourism establishments in Scotland to receive the Green Key eco-certificate for the first time.
The international accolade is awarded to establishments that demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices.
The 17 new recipients, including Mercure in Ayr, join 24 others, bringing the total number of Green Key certified establishments in Scotland to 41.
The certification is awarded by Keep Scotland Beautiful, an environmental charity, following comprehensive audits.
The audits assess various aspects of the establishments’ operations, from energy use in hotel rooms and laundry to food waste management in kitchens.
They also consider the day-to-day practices of employees.
Jamie Ormiston, training and accreditation coordinator at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “We congratulate all of the establishments across Scotland receiving Green Key certification for the first time and those who have met the criteria for a second year.
“These establishments join a prestigious group, not only in Scotland but across the world, who lead the way in sustainable tourism.
“Our highly skilled team of staff and auditors can help support your establishment’s journey to becoming more environmentally friendly, as well as advice on financial savings.
“I encourage you to get in touch with us today to start your sustainability journey.”
The Green Key provides an opportunity for establishments to access advice on how to make financial savings through more efficient use of energy and resources.
