McDonald’s wins approval to to refurbish and extend its eatery at Fiveways roundabout, near Mildenhall

McDonald’s has been granted permission to make alterations at one of its Suffolk outlets.

The American fast food chain applied to West Suffolk Council in October, seeking to refurbish and extend its eatery at Fiveways roundabout, Barton Mills, near Mildenhall.

In addition to a new hatch to allow for ‘fast forward’ ordering, cladding on the south and west sides of the building will be replaced due to previous fire damage, meaning the outside will now have a dark grey finish, with window and door frames being resprayed to match.

The existing drive-through booths will see slight extensions.

The firm planned alterations to the outdoor seating area, with new furniture, fencing, lights and bins.

Planning documents detailed proposals to relocate a pedestrian crossing and drop kerbs while also moving cycle storage.

The extension is set to be a total of 1.2 sqm and windows will be reconfigured to match a new layout inside the eatery, which will include the demolition of one existing wall and new partitions being built.

This would increase the size of the dining area while making the lobby smaller.

However, outside signs will remain the same.

Barton Mills Parish Council said it would make no comment on the plans.

In a letter of representation, Suffolk Highways said the plans would not have a detrimental effect on the A11.
