Yorke and Donwood (c) Julian Broad
The exhibition This Is What You Get, running at Oxford’s Ashmolean from August 8 to January 11 2026 will showcase the unique collaborations between Stanley Donwood and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, which explore the complex relationship between visual art and music.
Thom was the frontman – vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards – of the rock band Radiohead who, of course, formed in Abingdon in 1985. What may not be so well known is that he is also an artist.

Artist Stanley Donwood has been a long-time collaborator since he produced cover art for the band’s EP My Iron Lung in 1994.
The multi-media exhibition will feature artworks from the 1980s to the present day, including Radiohead album covers and promotional band images – as well as personal sketchbooks and notebooks never seen before in public.
This retrospective at the Ashmolean will be the first exhibition in a public gallery to bring together the visual work of Donwood and Yorke.

More than 120 works will be on display, including many of the paintings, drawings and digital art specifically created for Yorke’s internationally acclaimed band Radiohead.
Tickets will go on sale this April, with priority booking for Ashmolean Members available from early 2025, when more details of the show will be released.
