The popularity of such parties has ‘rocketed’ due to the success of teenager Luke Littler.
The Warrington darter will take on Dutch player Michael Van Gerwen tonight in the finals of the PDC World Championships, which is set to be held at London’s Alexandra Palace.
These events are often characterised by a ‘lively crowd’ and feature elements popular with stag dos such as fancy dress, chanting, and lots of beer.
This has led to an increase in fans watching from home and a boost in the sport’s popularity, largely attributed to Luke’s success.
Last Night of Freedom, a UK-based party organiser, has noticed a rise in interest in stag dos that include a game of darts.
However, despite being a key figure in the sport’s growing popularity, Luke, who has earned more than a million in prize money in 2024, is too young to participate in these stag dos.
Matt Mavir, managing director at the Tyneside-based stag do specialist, said: “Darts has really captured the imagination of the UK over the past couple of years, especially among young men who are taking up the arrows, and people have enjoyed watching Luke Littler’s dramatic rise as much as we did here at Last Night of Freedom.
“It’s led to a big surge in interest in including darts in our stag packages – which seems natural, as the atmosphere in the live crowd at a darts event could be mistaken for a stag do.”
Mr Mavir added that searches for darts activities on their website have increased by ‘more than 350 per cent.’
Best men are also increasingly asking about sport and fancy dress when planning bespoke stag packages.
He said: “Over the past few years, big city centres in the UK have seen an explosion of new activity bars opening which combine a few drinks with games like pool, bowling, table tennis and even go-karting.
“And darts-themed events have always been a popular part of our offer, especially in leading destinations like Newcastle and Liverpool – a city where many potential stags and hens from Luke’s hometown of Warrington might visit for their big celebration.
“We build bespoke getaways which allow groups to choose from hundreds of activities – it’s been a long time since stag dos were simple, short pub crawls around a local town or city centre.
“And now, partly because of Luke’s success, we’ve seen a huge rise in the number of people wanting darts to be part of their last night of freedom.”
