A major 24-hour endurance relay race overlooking the shores of Loch Ness will not take place in 2025, its organisers have announced.
Loch Ness 24, which most recently took place in August last year, will be taking “a year out” before returning “bigger [and] bolder” in 2026, its organisers have said.
The race, which follows a four-and-a-bit mile off-road circuit that takes in tracks and trails near the grounds of Aldourie Castle – as well as the likes of Dores Beach and Aldourie Pier – has become a popular fixture of the local event calendar.
Its most recent race was its third in as many years, so its one-year break is likely to disappoint its many fans.
Confirming the one-year break on Loch Ness 24’s Facebook page, organisers said: “Thank you to everyone who has reached out to ask about Loch Ness 24 this year, and thank you for your patience while we mulled over our plans for Loch Ness 24.
Runners line up for the start of the first lap of the Loch Ness 24.
“After much consideration, we have decided to take a year out as we gear up for a bigger bolder return in 2026.
“We have loved the last three years of Loch Ness 24 so this wasn’t an easy choice, but it allows us to focus on exciting possibilities for the future of the event.
“We’re using this time to explore new ideas and opportunities to maximise the potential of Loch Ness 24. We’re confident that this pause will enable us to bring you an even better experience when we return in 2026.
“We are so grateful for your incredible support and passion which has made Loch Ness 24 what it is today. We’ll keep you updated as plans develop. If you or someone you know are interested in potential partnership opportunities for 2026 please get in touch.
“We hope to welcome you back to the shores of Loch Ness in 2026 for an unforgettable adventure.”
