Light Night Worcester 2025 cancelled over funding issues

Light Night, which draws hundreds of crowds into Worcester city centre each year, will not go ahead this year due to funding issues.

Event organisers Severn Arts revealed it could not raise significant funds to host the event, which has led to the difficult decision to cancel it for 2025.

Worcester’s Light Night event has been a free-to-attend annual event for the past five years that saw art installations pop up across the city throughout the February half-term.

A spokesperson for Severn Arts said: “Unfortunately, Light Night Worcester will not be taking place this year.

“We have been unable to raise the significant funds required to put on this lovely free family event and have had to make the difficult decision not to run the festival in 2025.”

The spokesperson added: “We are looking at new plans for the future and we thank everyone for their commitment and enjoyment of Light Nights over the past five years.”

In previous events, the National Lottery has funded Light Night through Arts Council England and other local bodies, such as Worcester City Council and Worcestershire County Council.

Worcester City Council has declined to comment on the event.

Worcester News has contacted Worcestershire County Council and is waiting for a reply.

The event in 2024 also received funding from the University of Worcester, The Elmley Foundation and Worcester BID, as well as from supporters and sponsors, including Startin Group, BeFibre, Sound & Art at St. Swithun’s, Guthrie Roberts Ltd, The Kiln, Crowngate Shopping Centre, PB Signs Ltd and All Saints Worcester.

Light Night was set to take place on February 19 and 20, 2025.
