Letter: Thank you to lady who found my wallet in Winchester

One minute I had it, the next minute I didn’t. Life without a wallet just before Christmas is a bleak prospect – practically all my identity was missing.

What to do? I retraced my steps, I looked all around and all to no avail.

Then, after no more than 10 minutes, my mobile phone rang. It was the police to say that a kind lady had picked up my wallet from the street and gone to the trouble to bring it to the police station in Tower Street, whither I hastened as fast as I could.

What a very considerate, kind person she was to go out of her way to bring the wallet to a safe place and what special service from the police, who made sure that I was able to pick it up in double quick time.

At one stage, I was cast down with gloom – then it all came right again. I would like to thank that kind lady for going above and beyond what’s normal, by which kind act she has restored my faith in human kindness.
