Jas Kayser, known for her work with Lenny Kravitz, is taking a brief hiatus from the ‘Blue Electric Light’ tour to perform at The Marr’s Bar on Thursday, January 23.
Part of a series of four shows promoted by Music Spoken Here, the performance will feature contemporary drummer-led bands.
Kayser first collaborated with Kravitz in 2018, starring in his video ‘Low’.
Still in her 20s, she joined his tour last year, which concluded its South American leg in December and will recommence in Europe in February, with only one date in the UK.
A graduate of the Purcell School of Music in London and Berklee College of Music, Kayser has been mentored by several renowned musicians, including jazz drummer Terri Lynne Carrington.
In 2021, she won the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act of the Year and the Parliamentary Jazz Newcomer of the Year awards.
Her debut album was released in 2022 on the Jazz Re:freshed label, and she has collaborated with top UK artists, including Afa Mist, Jorja Smith, Nubya Garcia, and Shabaka Hutchings.
Kayser, who won the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act and the Parliamentary Jazz Newcomer Award in 2021, will be performing with her Chums band, featuring Jamie Leeming on guitar, Christos Stylianides on trumpet, Daisy George on bass, and Richie Sweet on percussion.
They will play original compositions influenced by jazz, Latin, and Afrobeat.
Doors open at 8pm, with the show starting at 8.30pm.
For Music Spoken Here club members, admission is free, while non-members are invited to pay what you can at the door.
